Populate is a hosted, web-based content management system

Content management system
A content management system allows you to manage the content of your website. Different Content management systems allow for different levels of content to be manipulated. Populate has an extensive range of features that allow you to add/remove, hide/show and create different versions of pages change the structure of the pages and then manipulate the data that is displayed on those pages. The system relies on a set of templates that have areas where content can be added. The content that can be added to these areas includes all of the usual elements that you see on any other websites and, using some of our modules, can include blogs, event calendars, image galleries etc. If you have a specifc requirement we can build you a custom module, in the past these have included stockist locators, high score boards etc....
 
Hosted
Your website will be hosted on one of our dedicated servers. Most content management solutions require you to purchase a license for the system download it, buy a hosting package from another company and hire a developer to customise, upload and test it on your server. You will then have to manage the backup of your remote data, manage any upgrades and security patches that are released for the content management software or pay a developer to do it on your behalf. The populate system is different in that any files we think need to be modified, improved or to have new features added to them are automatically applied to all of the sites held on our system. All of the data held on our servers is also continuoulsy backed up onseperate disk within the server and backed up remotely every 24 hours.
 
Web based
There is no requirement for special software to be installed on your computer to manage your website. All you need is an internet connection and a web browser. This has the advantage that you can use any computer connected to the web in any office in your building, any room at home or any internet cafe in the world and have full control over your website. We are even in the process of developing specific mobile interface (initially on Apple's iPhone) so that you really can gain access from anywhere.
